Welcome to Math at Work 10!
In order to facilitate better communication and to keep students and parents more informed, we will be adopting some strategies used in a Digital Classroom. We will be accessing Edmodo, which is a web based social media platform, designed for education, to keep up to date on assignments and course content.
All students will be creating an Edmodo presence during class and will sign in to my course with a course code provided in class. There will also be an option for parents to sign in to the course, to keep abreast of all that is happening.
In addition to using Edmodo to keep on track, we will be using Khan Academy as an online support for content and activities. All students will be invited to join my class via Khan Academy (via their school email addresses) and I encourage parents to also use Khan Academy or Youtube as course supports when looking for an explanation for content. I will be adding useful links from time to time and will send out this information. These are also free apps for Edmodo, Khan Academy and Youtube if you have access to a Smart device.
Finally, The last comprehensive component to our Digital Classroom will icloud computing. Owncloud is a web based storage site that is being supported by The Nova Scotia Department of Education. Each student has the capability to store work in their cloud. If you are familiar with cloud computing, you can also download this app or visit the web site. Students will be able to share and submit work to me from any location that has internet. If this is not familiar to yu, I will be walking students through the process in class. This will be a new process for myself as well, so we can all learn together.
